Investigating the Effects of Metformin and Inositol in the Treatment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Research Protocol

Introduction: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), an androgen hormone excess and ovarian dysfunction disorder is linked to insulin resistance, metabolic disorders, obesity. Inositol, a natural sugar compound effective in regulating levels follicle stimulating hormones. Metformin, biguanide drug which used for Type 2 Diabetes treatment controls glucose resistance. Using inositol metformin together of PCOS has been suggested be beneficial individuals with PCOS. The purpose this study assess the effectiveness improving hyperandrogenism, weight, menstruation, ovulation. Methods: A total 36 women between ages 25-35 clinically diagnosed will recruited participate six-month double- blinded controlled trial. Participants were classified normal BMI (18.5-24.0 kg/m2) overweight/obese (25.0-29.9 kg/m2 >30 randomized into one following treatments: 500 mg 4 g inositol, 250 twice daily or two placebo pills. Over 6-month period, blood tests sugar, testosterone levels, weight assessment on scale, menstruation questionnaire ultrasound improvement symptomology. Anticipated Results: It anticipated that both groups, there decrease resistance hyperandrogenism use. There should reduction groups increased effect seen BMI. Menstruation ovulation are become more regular using inositol. Discussion: Studies have found significantly improves circulating free androgens, increases sex binding globulin. Inositol LH/FSH ratio combination improve hormonal biochemical parameters significant menstrual cycle length. Conclusion: may synergistic effects symptomology quality life.
